The Parent Network
Our trained parent educators go into the
home and work with each parent one-on-one in a structured educational program.
Participants are encouraged to attend a Parenting Support Group, which enhances
skills that are being learned in the home as well as provide a supportive
structure for parents to discuss parenting issues with others who may be dealing
with similar problems.
The Parent Network has two components:
- The first component collaborates with
Muscogee County Department of Family and Children Services, the Muscogee County
School District, The House of T.I.M.E. (Substance abuse rehabilitation for
homeless women), Asset Builders of Columbus, local homeless shelters and
community organizations and is also open for self-referral.
- The second component is funded through the
Knight Foundation to follow 5th grade students from J.D. Davis Elementary
School for three years and provide the students and families with skills to
enhance their relationship. This is done through individual sessions,
group sessions, family outings (movies, dances, parties, etc.). This
program works closely with the school and families and follows the students
through Marshall Middle School.
Spanish curriculum is also available.
This program is provided at no cost to program
participants and is
designed to enhance parenting skills by:
- Teaching parents ways to raise
responsible children
- Enhancing communication between parent
and children
- Teaching the Active Parenting style
- Working around parents' busy schedules
